    I can’t believe this woman is making $120,000 and has the nerve to call in and ask if she can cash out her 401k for $50,000 in credit card debt. She’s insane.

    He shouldn't buy the ring, but expenses don't go up a whole lot when you get married, especially if you put off having children. There is usually double income, and maybe 1/3 fewer expenses due to married couples sharing expenses and things. Married people are wealthier than divorced and single people.

    When you look at her savings at 32, its pretty impressive. But when you consider just how much more she and her bf could contribute towards their savings, it really looks bad.

    So Suze's tip is that she should get a divorce? The first thing she missed is how much money they're making. If their combined income is less than the cost of living for the area, they will struggle no matter how careful they are. A clue is that the lady said she handled all the finances and yet they still have issues. So the issue isn't he's overspending, but the fact that they simply don't have enough money for a margin of error.

    yo wheres he paying such low rent?

  • @dawelch69
    @dawelch69 6 років тому

    I agree! Long ago, I filed for bankruptcy and then moved to another state where I had to find a house to rent. I found the house I loved and spoke with the owner/landlord about my situation. I was very honest about my bankruptcy, and I also had saved up a war chest of cash since then. The landlord told me there were other parties interested in renting on a month to month basis. I countered with a firm 1-year lease agreement with deposit and 12 month's rent up front. He immediately responded: "Deal!" So save your money after a foreclosure or bankruptcy as in my experience, landlords prefer cash up front.

    "Thinking you have all the time in the world...you just might not," makes me wonder, where is the line? I've been saving and investing heavily toward my future, but at times I feel like I'm all work and no play. What if I don't get old? I'd have worked and saved all that for nothing, in the end. How do I find the right amount to spend on things I want and don't need and how much to invest? How can I feel like I'm not just saving for a future I may never see? I want to enjoy life as I live it, not risk missing it completely by being too focused on the future. Thanks

    If you think a ring is a suitable "investment for a relationship" (and holy hell what a twee, stupid statement that is), I think your portfolio o' love is full of junk bonds.

    Oh, I remember that African Safari caller. That woman was thick as a brick (the $28K was literally every penny in her savings and she had no retirement of any kind) and kept trying to get approved even after Suze annihilated her. I would bet money that she went and spent the money on that trip anyway.

    what should be done in this situation is the wife and husband need to have separate accounts..then a third account for the bills. each person should have to put in half the bills each month. and if they dont then the person can easily see they are either not pulling their weight or they are spending money foolishly

    It really depends on the nature of the job. For a full-time corporate job sure, but for freelance gigs, one lowball offer has a tendency to lead to lowball referrals. At the very least you need a plan for how to bring in more business at a decent price. I've been burned there doing private tutoring.

    Suze - You're discussing compensation structures. Why don't you mention the "fee-only" designation? Many folks confuse it with "fee-based". Thanks for being a beacon of light in our opaque industry!
